The Robert Penn Warren Circle

The Robert Penn Warren Circle meets annually, usually over the last weekend in April (the weekend closest to the birthday of Robert Penn Warren).

We organize a three day conference, usually beginning with a reception, an opening panel, and an open mike poetry reading and cash bar on Thursday night, with several panels on Friday and Saturday on subjects of interest to Robert Penn Warren Studies.

Most of the scholars who regularly write about Robert Penn Warren are regular attendees, and we particularly encourage graduate students with an interest in Robert Penn Warren Studies to attend.

Usually at least one afternoon's worth of panels will be held at the Robert Penn Warren Birthplace in Guthrie, and the Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Committee sponsors a celebratory lunch for the Circle in Guthrie. Typically we also have panels on the campus of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, and Austin Peay has generously thrown us a party on Saturday Night on their campus. We also often have events at Western Kentucky State University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The most recent call for papers is always posted on the Call for Papers page here.

Membership in the circle is open to all; annual dues are $15.00 ($5.00 for students), and should be sent to: John Burt, Department of English MS023, Brandeis University, Waltham MA 02454. Registration for our annual conference is $60 for full time faculty, $40 for graduate students and retirees.
